We would not regard Tanzania as one of the most renowned
golf destinations in the world but if you are a keen golfer and
would like to play a round while on your Tanzania Journey there
are a few decent courses for you to enjoy. Near Arusha, the Gymkhana
Club has a challenging 18-hole course kept in excellent condition
by the plentiful water which runs through the course, while the
new Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge has a well maintained 9-hole course
soon to be expanded to 18. In Moshi, the well laid out Moshi Club
is the only course in the world which has views of Mount Kilimanjaro
as you head down the 6th and 8th holes. The 9-hole course is a gem
but is unfortunately suffering from lack of water and investment
leading to fairways bare of grass and scorched greens despite the
hard work of some of its members. It is worth playing just for the
unique view it affords of the highest free standing mountain in
the world and the friendly welcome you receive at the club. Twelve
kilometres from Moshi, the Tanzanian Plantation Corporation, affectionately
known as TPC, has a well tended 9-hole course which is working towards
regaining all its former 18-hole glory. The course as the name suggests
is on the land of a fully operational sugar plantation. Dar es Salaam
Gymkhana Club, an excellent 18-hole course with sweeping views down
to the Indian Ocean and smooth browns replacing the standard greens,
makes a superb and challenging round of golf in the heart Tanzania’s
cosmopolitan first city. Morogoro and Iringa in southern Tanzania
also have excellent courses.
We can organise rounds of golf around your
safari or mountain climbing activities or stop in Dar on route to
Zanzibar to partake of a round of your favourite game. Although
not a reason to come to Tanzania in itself (there are so many other
reasons anyway!), an opportunity for a game of golf should not be
missed, especially when the sun is shining in the January heat.
Contact us now to organise your journey to include rounds at some
of these challenging and under looked courses. |
